The Sock Creatures are going on holiday

This afternoon, 2 lucky Sock Creatures are going to be packing their cases and heading off to France for a late summer holiday. There is a lot of excitement here at Sock Creature HQ, as no-one knows who will be chosen for the trip yet. They will find out when Sock Lady gets back from work this afternoon, and then they will begin their journey to Portsmouth, to catch the ferry to Le Havre.

Check in next week to find out which Sock Creatures got to go to France, and to read about their trip.

A cleaner Sock Creature HQ

New Socks

Some of the new socks I have bought in the last couple of weeks

Please note: I do not currently take orders, and all these socks shown will be made into sock creatures, which will be available in the shop over the next few months.

A Messy Sock Creature HQ

I never did get chance to clean Sock Creature HQ last week, so it is my mission this afternoon to get it sorted. I'm hoping that by sharing with you, how messy it is, that I will have more motivation to clean it up!

A few I made earlier

These guys have been waiting patiently to have their photos taken for a couple of weeks now. As the sun is shining today, we ventured out in the garden and got the job completed. They will be available in the shop later this afternoon.

Return to the sewing machine

It is my hope, that tomorrow I will get the chance to finish tidying Sock Creature HQ, and get back to the sewing machine. So far this week, I have sorted out all of the stock and listed it on the new website, all ready for the launch. Tonight, I have been browsing the shops for new socks . Now is a good time of year for great patterns, so keep an eye on this blog for news of new designs. I'm hoping that many new Kitty Kats and Shabby Eared Dogs will be emerging from Sock Creature HQ this weekend. Watch this space.

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Buggles

Buggles are the latest creation from Sock Creations. Made from children's trainer socks, they are a cross between a bug and a bumble bee.

Examples of Buggles:

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Funky Chickens

Funky Chickens were inspired by the BT engineer who visited our house, saw some sock creatures on the table and suggested making chickens. After a bit of playing and tweaking, Funky Chickens emerged from Sock Creature HQ

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Shabby Eared Dogs

After launching the Kitty Kat, I had many requests for a dog, and so came the creation of the Shabby Eared Dog. These are the same size as the Kitty Kats, and their name comes from the shabby raw edge of the ears.

Examples of Shabby Eared Dogs:

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Kitty Kats

After deciding to create a slightly bigger creature, I decided to try making a sock cat, and so Kitty Kats were created. Made from a pair of ladies socks, Kitty Kats measure approximately 12 inches long from front to back, and are usually made from striped or animal print socks.

Examples of Kitty Kats:

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Sock Bunnies

Sock Bunnies are made with a ladies sock, and have cute knotted ears and a little sack that they sit in. This sack can be very useful at Easter & at Christmas, for storing small chocolate treats. Each bunny is approximately 4.5 inches tall, excluding the ears. Like the other creatures, they come with cute button eyes.

Examples of Sock Bunnies:

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Owls

The owls are possibly one of the cutest creatures I make, and although they take a bit longer to make than some of the other Sock Creatures, they also use up some of the scrap bits of other socks. Like the others, they each have their own individual names, and characters, and are also available in the shop

Examples of owls:

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Goofy Toothy

Goofy Toothys are another descendant of the Little Dude. Originally designed as vampires, these guys were renamed to make them sound a little less scary. With their felt teeth pointing down they resemble the blood suckers, and with their teeth pointing upwards, they just look goofy. These lovable creatures are also made from children's socks and are also available to buy in the Payvment Shop.

Examples of Goofy Toothys:

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Pirates

Like the Little Dudes & Dudettes? Then add an eye patch made from felt & elastic, and you have a Pirate. Complete with pirate name, these guys are ready to set sail in search of treasure.

Examples of Pirates:

Available Pirates can be found in our Payvment Shop

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Little Dudettes

Like the Little Dudes, but made from girls socks instead, these Little Dudettes also have their own characters, and like the other Sock Creatures, come individually named.

Examples of Little Dudettes:

Available Little Dudettes can be found in our Payvment Shop

Introducing the Sock Creatures - Little Dudes

Little Dudes are approximately 4.5 inches tall and are made from socks for little boys, size 6-8.5. These were the first type of creature to ever be created in Sock Creature HQ. and like all the other creatures that have followed, all have their own individual characters.

Available Little Dudes can be found in our Payvment Shop

Sock Creature HQ

Sock Creature HQ is the name we have given our spare room. This is where all the sock creatures get made. During the summer we had my husband's daughter staying, so everything got moved into a corner. Now the room is looking pretty messy, with no clear space for sewing. Today I plan to have a good sort out, to make the room functional again, and to also sort out the stock so I can start loading it onto the new website. Once that is complete, I can start making again, ready for the Christmas fairs.

Welcome to Sock Creations

Sock Creations came about one weekend in April 2010, when I decided to turn my love of all things quirky into something other people could enjoy too. When my husband returned home a week later, with a sewing machine under his arm, sock creatures began to take over the house.

The Sock Creations website is currently under construction, but I am hoping to have it up and running very soon. There, I will be sharing all my new creations, fresh from the sewing machine, and making them available for re-homing in the online shop. Here I will be blogging about their adventures from sewing machine to new home.
